With
work, Covid, and life I’m only visiting my family about once a month. That
family includes my 86-year-old mother and my two sisters. My brother’s around
but he’s the black sheep of the family and though around doesn’t come out to
chat. My older recluse sister now lives in Vegas and I only saw her at
Thanksgiving and Christmas even when she was around. So suffice it to say we’re
probably a pretty typical American family.
With
my wife working on Thanksgiving we fortunately won’t have to make any decision
about visiting that holiday.
Christmas
will be another story as we’re both off. That’s going to be a tough one as we
usually all gather at my sister’s in San Clemente with all the children and
grandchildren present. Ironic that a holiday that’s suppose to celebrate the
birth of a savior could literally have death hanging in the air.
That’s
going to make for a very difficult decision in these precarious times. But that
seems to be true the world over at the moment. Hopefully we’ll all be wise
enough to express our love and gratitude for each other while at the same time
not risking harming or killing one another.
