After watching the most of the primary debates and the three Presidential debates I can understand why people would be enamored with a politician that comes off as not being a politician.
Take Clinton, for instance; she’s a politician who I feel would be a lot better off if she didn’t try so hard to always be so political. As an example, like almost every politician she did three things during the last debate that are off putting.
1. She argues the obvious. Like when she talked about being against a court decision that somehow could lead to toddlers being shot. Is there an argument for that? Surely the courts aren’t rendering decisions based on the likelihood of children fighting for their 2nd amendment rights.
2. She uses personal examples to emotionalize complex moral and philosophical problems. “ I recently met a woman in Peoria…” Let’s discuss what we can do to mitigate our problems and leave the sympathy cards to the people in their small towns for your private moments.
3. She avoids taking bold positions. For example, she claims to support the 2nd amendment. Why not go a step further and state that you support it as it was originally intended in the Constitution; for the states to form a militia to protect themselves from a tyrannical federal or foreign power? And then go further and say you’ll appoint judges that will support that view?
Don’t get me wrong. Hillary deserves to win. I just hope our next President is someone a bit more bold like Bernie or Elizabeth Warren.
