The two waterfalls is one of those places that  you feel blessed to see in person. A picture will help convey the spectacular imagery, but it is one of those places that is well worth going out of your way for if you ever visit the Chiriqui area.

We would have never seen it if it weren’t for Phillip who took us there. And there’s a good chance we won’t see it again unless he’s kind enough to offer to accompany us. We could possibly run the half gravel half dirt road to the unmarked trailhead, but even with the maps Phillip provided us, following the fence lines and knowing that to cut across the last pasture to get to the trail, while seemingly simple to him, would be a challenge to our almost nonexistent navigational skills. I’m sure we’ll have at it one of these days.
And one of these days better be soon because, according to Phillip, one of the rivers that supplies the water for one of the falls is scheduled to be dammed as part of one of the many hydroelectric projects slated for this area of Panama. At that point the flow could be reduced by as much as 90% and the two falls become one fall and one old dude taking a leak.

As an aside; Phillip, whom we met at the Western Trail clean up on Saturday, drives an old brown Toyota Land Cruiser, Kimme’s favorite vehicle. I can somewhat understand the appeal given what these bruisers are capable of driving over, but the odds of us lucking out and finding a decent one are about as high as us finding the two waterfalls trail again on our own.
