Michael: The Man in the Raincoat Returns

The intensity
Of the storm rolled over us
Like a crashing wave.

For the first time in nearly two months we watched a Columbo. It wasn’t by choice, not that we don’t like the frumpy persistent dude. But his appearance no longer represents the entertaining solution to an upper class murder, but that our internet is no longer working.

The repair dude came a couple of days ago and did what he’s done in the past; swap out the splitter. Maybe 90% of the time that’s the problem, but not this time around. Whatever it is, we hope it gets fixed soon, before we end up making too many trips to the internet cafĂ©, or start pantomiming Columbo episodes as we watch them.

And this morning, for the first time this year, we may end up re-scheduling a run due to rain. It started raining very heavily late last night and has persisted at various intensities for over 8 hours now. It’s daybreak and we usually head out the door at 7:30, but there won’t be much point heading to a trailhead that would require Hoka like pontoon shoes; a shoe category I haven’t come across yet at Running Warehouse.

As the Monty Python song goes - “Always look on the bright side of life…“, and I wish I could whistle that happy little whistle they do after that…And on the bright side, at least our house didn’t have any mystery puddles on the floor like it did when we came home from the Thanksgiving Day bash on Sunday. With all the rain we had overnight we both were afraid we’d be wading to the bathroom this morning, but dry as can be.

The mysteries of Panama, unlike the murders on Columbo, continue to surprise us.
