Our hot water and stove are fueled by two small beer keg sized canisters stored in a small shed against the house. They usually last about a month and a half and usually run out within a day or two of each other. That allows us to switch from one to the other until we can get replacements. It’s a bit of a hassle, but not all that problematic. But this month disaster struck and both canisters ran out at the same time.
Disaster because it meant waking up without hot coffee! That might be the best reason yet to get a car here.
But since we don’t have a car, we had to wait until the next morning when we could go shopping at the nearest store to us, Berard’s, then flag down a taxi. The taxi drives us home and we ask him to wait while we retrieve the canisters. He then takes us to the gas station to replace the canisters, then takes us back home. It’s all pretty quick and not all that costly. The canisters are about $6 and the taxi, for all the back and forth, was also $6.
But how do you calculate the cost of the stress of possibly going without a hot cup of coffee with a dash of cinnamon in the morning? Is buying a used car worth it to alleviate that fear? Sounds preposterous I know, but you try sleeping at night without the assurance that the Java Gods are going to bless you in the morning with a sip of their hot aromatic ambrosia.
