Michael: A Festivus Miracle

The afternoon rain
Was background for the brittle
Thunder and bird calls.

On our way back from our morning run yesterday we noticed a downed power line draped across our neighbor’s fence. Turns out it was our phone line. A dairy truck or falling branch must have snagged it. I figured that meant instead of making an inexpensive long call home on Christmas, I’d be making a very short expensive cell call home. And who knows when our net would be restored and how it would work. Right now it blinks out occasionally, but all we have to do is take the phone off the hook for a minute to bring it back.

We called our landlord and she immediately called the cable and wireless company. Then it started to rain pretty steadily and I figured that was that; no service until next week. But late in the afternoon she called and said the repairman was on his way. And it’s a Festivus miracle! Our phone and internet are back up with the same old trick of taking the phone off the hook  when it blinks out.

Now we should be able to relax and enjoy a long conversation with our families back in the states and unwind to some Christmas movie on the net instead of watching Columbo solve the same murder for the billionth time.
