Michael: Pup
On wings of vapor
And dust the butterflies rise
Like small white angels.

The one relationship we worried about changing when we left to visit the states last month was with our neighbor’s dog we call “Pup“. We wondered if he’d still come by to greet us just about every time we came back home from some downtown errand. Seeing him run toward us with all that positive energy was a real spirit lifter.
And it did change. We’d walk home and call and he wouldn’t come. We walked by his house and often he wasn’t there. Sometimes we’d see him wandering a mile or more away from home a long way from where he use to roam. His owners, our neighbors must’ve also became concerned because we notice that now he’s tethered in their yard.
That’s the way it is with a lot of dogs around here. They’re either allowed to roam free or kept on leashes. Out in the country most fences are made of simple cattle wire that do nothing to prevent a dog from coming and going as it pleases, so many people tether their dogs on very short runs to either a tree or a dog house.
It’s very sad to us and now it seems that one of the few friends we’ve made in Panama will be living that kind of life.
