Why the gold beetle
Was on our porch this morning
Is unknown to me.

Sometimes it’s been the big trips and challenges, but lately it’s been the almost daily small wonders at my door step, that brings the wonder and beauty of nature to my senses.

Yesterday, for example, a 2” long black furry caterpillar was hiding underneath our back door. I thought that would be the highlight of my day, but after I worked out a Golden Tortoise Beetle had crawled up onto our porch, perhaps the most beautiful bug I’ve seen.

We both feel very fortunate that life in this small cottage has given us such gifts.

Now speaking of different types of gifts and challenges; We went to David yesterday and I wasn’t feeling all that geared up to face the heat and confusion such a trip usually entails, but it went surprisingly well and we got back earlier than we had on any previous journey there.

To start it was a tad cooler, which isn’t to say it was comfortable, but it was at least inching in that direction.

We also didn’t meander: off the bus at Air Box to pick up mail, taxi to Dr. Bikes Shop for some lube, taxi to the parque and an easy for us find of Todos Bike Shop for a Specialized Roman Expert Saddle that I hope is going to take away the pain from my rear and place it all back into my legs and lungs where it belongs, walk to the nearby Chinese restaurant for vegetable fried rice, taxi to the Super 99.

All right, that’s where the efficiency of the trip began to creep into a meandering tourist like crawl, but even that was worth it, as we now discovered a go-to store that looks like it’ll have just about everything we could hope for in a decent sized package unlike the Armageddon monstrosities at Price Smart (Panama's Price Club/Costco) that we can never buy because we don’t have the silo to store them in.

Today, if my calf holds up, it’s back to the hot springs at Totumas.  It’s not light or warm enough to open the back door yet and I’m trying not to let my curiosity and sense of hope get the better of me and just accept whatever beauty awaits, even if it’s just the everyday ordinary beauty here of the birds’ songs and cows grazing.
