Two little quirky notes to end our short foray into Costa Rica on:
One, there bus/rest stops, at least along Highway 2, are great. I wish they had ones just like them in the states. Not only do they include the usual snack shop, but it’s also typical that they have a pretty decent produce market and a clean cafeteria with a wide variety of entrés and sides for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Much preferred over the fast food stops that dot U.S. freeways. Kimme wants me to punch this up by saying they REALLY have a wide variety of snacks and the cafeterias have ALL kinds of breakfasts and lunch choices, but I think she was just hungry and thankful she could find so many things to eat. She’s kind of picky that way. But the rest stops, though not worth a trip to Costa Rica in and of themselves, are much better than decent.
Two, we found a classical music station to listen to as we drove and discovered that the announcers have that exact same smooth, slow tone that U.S. classical station announcers have. The announcers’ pronunciation were so clear and comforting that we’ve decided to try and find a classical station we can pick up here in Volcan. I think it would be kind of cool to learn Spanish and then talk to everybody in the same tone as classical music station announcers do.
