Michael: On Again

An afternoon nap
Isn’t a sign on old age
In a dog or cat.

Speaking of serendipity and the magic of Panama…

(And just to punctuate that point, I am now continuing writing this after a momentary power outage, which doesn’t occur very frequently after the rainy season.)

About 6 months ago two events occurred with on one having a very large effect on our happiness here, and the other having a much more minor effect.

The event with the pronounced effect was the phone company coming and repairing our lines so our internet service would be more robust. It’s now to the point where we’re almost trusting that if the power is up, we’ll have internet service. It hasn’t failed since then and we haven’t even had to rely on goofy fixes like taking the phone off the hook to bring back the signal.

The minor event was an above the sink light going out. We’d learned to live without it because our landlord and next door neighbor, whose brother happens to be an electrician, said she’d have her brother look at it when he gets a chance. But shortly before we told her he got a job in David and hasn’t been back since.

We had accepted our fate of living with a slightly dimmer kitchen when, as soon as the rainy season ended, the light began to work again. The drier air must’ve undampened some connection, but since I’m neither an electrician nor magician, I’m not going to muse over it too much. Just chalk it up to another one of those moments that are bound to happen when living in the land of magical realism.
