Michael: The Horse, the Stool, and the Shovel

Crystal beads of rain
Cling to the banana leaf
Like fine jewelry.

Since our neighbors moved out we’ve had a few wandering animals come by and check out the place. The most interesting has been a very fine chestnut horse.

We don’t know who owns this horse. We’ve never seen anyone near him. But whenever he strolls through the yard next door he’s always well groomed, so someone’s looking after him.

What’s curious about this horse is that at some point while it’s hanging out, he’ll grab this old 4 legged stool and start banging it against the house. When it gets bored of doing that it’ll pick up an old shovel and lift it in the air a few times. It’s a riot to watch, or maybe living in the country for over a year now has drastically lowered my level of what’s amusing.

What I’m really hoping for is that he’ll quietly come over, swing his head slowly first to the left, then to the right, then start digging until eventually the shovel clangs against something metal - the treasure his parents secretly buried for him when he was just a young pony.
