It seems the insidious side of the rainy season is now upon us. That’s the way the rainy season works here. It’s sad, and I mean sad as in S.A.D.
Sure, from the beginning of May until the end of October, is officially demarcated as the rainy season. But inside that framework is a wide range of climate differential. What begins as a spatter of rain on and off in the afternoons in May will become, by September, earlier, longer, and harder rains. And with that comes darker and colder nights. The trails and roads take longer to dry out and daytime sun and warmth dwindle to just a few hours a day.
It’s nowhere near as harsh as a North American winter can be, but it does get bleak enough to become a bit depressing. Fortunately, by Halloween it’ll all be behind us and longer days in the warm sun will prevail again through April.
